The Kenyan Defense Chief was among the 10 people killed in a helicopter crash in Kenya. Though 2 people survived in the crash, the president has extended his warn grievance and condolence to the the defense chief. The story has it that they were going to the Kenyan Northwest to support the Military sent to abate the incessant rise in cattle rustling where they met their untimely death. General Francis Ogolla and nine other people were killed in the crash at 2:20 pm (11:20 GMT) on Thursday in Elgeyo Marakwet County, about 400km (250 miles) northwest of the capital, Nairobi.

President William Ruto said. Two officers survived the crash, including the pilot.
“Today at 2:20 pm, our nation suffered a tragic air accident… I am deeply saddened to announce the passing of General Francis Omondi Ogolla,
The president, who had convened an urgent meeting of the National Security Council after news of the accident emerged, said nine other “gallant military personnel” on board were also killed while two survived.

The military aircraft had been on a visit to troops deployed in northwest Kenya to combat cattle rustling and came down just minutes after taking off near Cheptulel Boys Secondary School in West Pokot County.
Ogolla was previously the head of the Kenyan Air Force before rising to deputy military chief and then being promoted by Ruto last year to head the military.
When promoting Ogolla to the top military job a year ago, Ruto accused him of being part of a plot to overturn the result of the 2022 presidential election but said he was the best-qualified person for the job.
