BRIEF HISTORY OF WHAT HAPPENED.
The 7 aid workers that were killed in the air strike have been revealed.
A marked three-vehicle convoy delivering food parcels from the charity World Central Kitchen (WCK) was hit by an Israeli airstrike on Monday night as it traveled in a ‘deconflicted zone’ on the coastal al-Rashid Road.
The attack triggered global condemnation as governments demanded explanations for the attack from Israel.
WCK identified those killed in the strike as Palestinian Saifeddin Issam Ayad Abutaha, 25, Australian Lalzawmi (Zomi) Frankcom, 43, Polish Damian Soból, 35, Jacob Flickinger, 33, a US-Canadian dual citizen, and British citizens John Chapman, 57, James Henderson, 33, and James Kirby, 47.
Summoning Israeli ambassador.
The UK government summoned Israel’s ambassador to London over the killings.
Sunak described the situation in Gaza as “increasingly intolerable”.
In a statement of the phone call from No. 10 Downing Street, Sunak reportedly told Netanyahu he was “appalled by the killing of aid workers, including three British nationals, in an airstrike in Gaza yesterday and demanded a thorough and transparent independent investigation into what happened”.
“The prime minister said far too many aid workers and ordinary civilians have lost their lives in Gaza and the situation is increasingly intolerable,” the statement continued.
WCK, which has been working in Gaza since the start of the war, said in a statement on Tuesday that the convoy of two armored vehicles and one soft-skin was hit “despite coordinating movements” with the Israeli army.
THE SEVEN WORLD CENTRAL KITCHEN AID WORKERS ARE.
Lalzawmi ‘Zomi’ Frankcom, 43.
The aid worker from Melbourne, Australia was the WCK’s Relief Lead in Gaza. She was described as a “kind, selfless, and outstanding human being [who] traveled the world helping others in their time of need”.
Last month, WCK posted a video on X of Ms Frankcom at their kitchen in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, which was newly opened.
Ms Weekley met Ms Frankcom in 2019 when they responded to Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas and worked with her again during the summer bushfires in Australia.

“He was happy to work with an organization that provides humanitarian aid to the displaced, our hearts are broken by your death, Saif,” his close friend Hassan said amid tears, sadness, and anger.
“You have hurt us with your passing, and we will not forget you. We pray for your mercy, Saif, and may God give us patience and give patience to your family and loved ones,” he told the BBC.
John Chapman, 57
Mr Chapman was one of the three.
His family described him as “an incredible father, husband, son, and brother” who “will forever be a hero”.
“He will be missed dearly,” they said.
Chris Burns, who served with Mr Chapman in the military, remembers him as a “very, very bubbly [man who] got on with everybody”.
“He was a very, very funny guy,” Mr Burns said on BBC World at One
Jacob Flickinger, 33
He had been a volunteer in Gaza since early March.
Mr Flickinger’s parents told the BBC on Thursday that their son had loved his job. “The work carried his talents,” his father, John Flickinger, said. “His love for adventure and his desire to serve and help others.”The dual US-Canadian was born in Quebec and had served 11 years in the Canadian Armed Forces
“He was such a good human being,” his mother Sylvie Labrecque said. “He was extremely devoted to his work and his family.”
Mr Flickinger had recently settled in Costa Rica with his partner Sandy and their 18-month-old son, named Jasper.
“Jasper will be a very good inspiration for us to stay strong,” Mrs Labrecque said. “Right now, we’re still in shock.”
James (Jim) Henderson, 33
He had been in Gaza for just over a week alongside with Mr Chapman and Mr Kirby. They were due to return home in days, the BBC understands.
Matthew Harding, the non-executive director of the security company that employed them, said all three had extensive experience in risk management and were “all highly trained, highly professional”.
A former Royal Marine from Penryn has been named as one of three British aid workers killed by an Israeli air strike in Gaza.
It has been reported that Mr. Henderson had been traveling in a marked car operated by World Central Kitchen (WCK), a charity providing meals to Palestinians when the convoy was hit by three missiles fired from an IDF drone.
The convoy was hit as it was leaving the Deir al-Balah warehouse, where the team had unloaded more than 100 tonnes of humanitarian food aid taken to Gaza on the maritime route, the charity said.
James Kirby, 47
James Kirby, 47 from Bristol, was one of the seven people who died when a bomb was dropped as they delivered food late on Monday, April 1.His family said he would be “remembered as a hero” who will “never know the void he has left”.
Speaking to the BBC, Mr. Kirby’s cousin Adam McGuire said he was “completely selfless” and “just wanted to help people”, which is why he had gone to Gaza.
“James was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone, even in the face of senseless violence,” they said in a statement.
Another cousin, Amy Roxburgh-Barry, described him as a “true friend” who “loved his mates, he loved his family.”James had served in Belfast, Bosnia, and Afghanistan with the British Armed Forces before moving into work as a security consultant. James’ cousin Stephen Caple posted to social media to say how proud their family is of his heroic effort.
(9)Damian Sobol, 35
Przemysl-native Damian Sobol, 35, was in Gaza with the World Central Kitchen (WCK) charity to provide aid to Palestinians when he was killed in an Israeli airstrike along with six other WCK workers on Monday. The mourners, numbered several hundred by the PAP news agency, gathered near the Przemysl train station to commemorate Sobol.
They lit candles at the place where he had begun his relief work path when he volunteered to help Ukrainians fleeing their country after Russia invaded Poland’s eastern neighbor in Feb.2022.
“There is no consent for killing innocent people, let’s remember this, and let’s remember that Damian was helping so that other people would not die of hunger,” said Waldemar, a local aid worker who had helped Ukrainian refugees alongside Sobol at Przemysl station, speaking to TVN private broadcaster. He declined to give his surname.
“We started here as volunteers. Damian set off further on the volunteering path and unfortunately was murdered by Israeli services.”
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has confirmed Mr Sobol was killed.
“Our brave compatriot, Mr Damian Sobol from Przemysl, helped people in need in Gaza where there is a humanitarian crisis. He was killed during an attack which the Israeli army has accepted responsibility for,” he said in a video message on X. In an earlier post, he said he had personally asked the Israeli ambassador for an “urgent explanation” for the strike.
Colleagues of Mr Sobol have posted comments on social media describing how he had taken part in delivering aid to Ukrainian refugees following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
THE DEATH SENTENCE AND RISK OF WORKING AS AN AID WORKER.
About 1,200 people were killed and 253 hostages taken when Hamas launched its unprecedented attack on southern Israel on 7 October. About 130 hostages remain in captivity, at least 34 of whom are presumed dead.
Most of those killed since the war broke out six months ago worked for the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, which runs the biggest aid operation in Gaza.
Since the war in Gaza, then, more than 33,000 people have been killed in Gaza, including many women and children, the Hamas-run health ministry says.
More than 196 aid workers have been killed in Gaza since October, according to the US-funded Aid Worker Security Database, which records major incidents of violence against aid personnel.
