THE ISSUE OF CREATION OF STATE POLICE HAS BEEN A MAJOR TOPIC FOR YEARS. THE UPSURG IN BANDITRY, KIDNAPPING, TERRORIZM, AND BARBARIC EVILS PERPETRATED BY THESE NON-STATE ACTORS HAVE CREATED SLEEPLESS NIGHTS IN THE LIVES OF THE COMMON PEOPLE AND EVERY OTHER CONCERNED PEOPLE.
TODAY PEOPLE CANNOT GO TO THEIR LAND, PEOPLE ARE ACCOSTED IN LARGE MAGNITUDE AND THE LEADERS ARE QUITE UNBOTHERED ABOUT THE SITUATION. SOME PEOPLE ARE ALLEGING THAT THESE CRIMES ARE WELL ORGANIZED AND ARRANGED AND THAT ACCUSING FINGERS ARE POINTING AT THE SECURITY AND SOME GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS. THIS WEEK OUT OF 36 GOVERNORS IN THE COUNTRY, ONLY 16 GOVERNORS HAVE SUBMITTED THEIR PLANS FOR THE CREATION OF STATE POLICE TO THE VICE PRESIDENT DURING THE NATIONAL ECONOMIC COUNCILS, BELOW ARE THE NAMES OF THE 16 GOVERNORS.
Only 16 governors out of the 36 governors have submitted their plans for state policing.
The reports were amongst documentation received at the 140th NEC meeting presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja on Thursday.

Special Adviser to the Vice President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, revealed this in a statement he signed Thursday titled, ‘NEC endorses take-off of $617M i-DICE program across states.’
Nkwocha said the Secretary to NEC, Nebeolisa Anako, made a presentation on submissions by states on the state police initiative.
The governors also recommended changes to the constitution to allow for the creation of state police.
Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, who briefed State House Correspondents after the meeting, revealed that out of the 36 states, 20 governors and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were yet to submit their positions on the matter, though he did not specify which states were among them.
No details were given about the specific states.
The Vice President’s spokesperson assured that the total number would be presented at the next NEC meeting even as “the compilation is still going on”.
It was reported that the governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had on February 12 restated their position on state policing as the solution to the country’s worsening security situation, lamenting that Nigeria is “almost on the road to Venezuela”.
Also, regional socio-political groups such as Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Middle Belt Forum, and the Northern Elders’ Forum, have repeatedly called for state police as a solution to the myriad of security challenges confronting the nation
