Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has approved the suspension of the 21st OBI OF ONITSHA, IGWE NNAEMEKA ACHABE as the chairman of the Anambra State Council of Traditional Rulers over the comment he made concerning the title given to IFEANYI UBAH. The decision was taken at a council meeting held at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia, Awka, on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. The meeting was attended by 120 out of the 172 recognized traditional rulers in the state.

The governor accused Igwe Achebe of disrespecting his authority and undermining the peace and stability of the state resulting to his suspension. Igwe Achebe had written an open letter to the governor, criticizing him for the suspension he gave to some traditional rulers who conferred chieftaincy titles on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah without due process.

Igwe Achebe claimed that the governor did not consult him or the council before taking such actions. He also alleged that the governor was interfering in the affairs of the traditional institution and violating the code of conduct for traditional rulers, which the governor denied resulting in his suspension.

IN THE LATEST DEVELOPMENT, REPORT REACHING NISCOMPRESSPRESS MEDIA, IT THAT THE GOVERNOR HAS RECONCILED WITH OBI OF ONITSHA AND HAS ANNUELLED THEIR SUSPENSION.
The Governor has resolved differences with the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, following a disagreement over traditional rulers, which means now his suspension has been lifted.

In a statement released on Wednesday in Awka, the Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Christian Aburime, announced that Soludo has nullified the suspension passed on the Neni monarch and pardoned two others for their alleged infractions.
