The election of Dauda Lawal of the Peoples Democratic Party as Zamfara State Governor was upheld by the Supreme Court. The apex court set aside the decision of the court of appeal declaring the governorship election in Zamafara State inconclusive.
The court held that it was wrong for the Independent National Electoral Commission to adopt results from the IReV to declare the winner in the affected LGA, adding that “IReV is not part of the collation system but for viewing purposes.”
The Supreme Court on Friday upheld the election of Alex Otti as the duly elected governor of Abia.

According to the Supreme Court, the PDP’s appeal is like the proverbial case of crying more than the bereaved and should not have been taken up to the level of the Supreme Court. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared that Mr Otti polled 175,466 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mr Ahiwe of the PDP, who scored 88,529 in the gubernatorial poll on March 18, 2023.
The election of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang was upheld by the Supreme Court today. Justice Emmanuel Agim held that the APC and its candidate are not members of the PDP and cannot challenge the primary election of the PDP. He also held that the tribunal and court of appeal lacked jurisdiction to entertain the issue.
He said, “The petition by the APC and its candidates are abuse of the court process.
“I wonder why the matter came to court at all. This appeal is allowed.”
“My worry is that a lot of people have suffered as a result of this,” Justice John Okoro said while agreeing with the lead judgment.

The Plateau governorship election petition tribunal had earlier affirmed Mr Muftwang’s victory, prompting Mr Yilwada to appeal at the Appeal Court,and his prayer was granted which resulted to the rulings of today in the governor’s favor.
The Supreme Court has upheld the election of Bassey Otu as the governor of Cross River State.The Court dismissed the appeal brought before it by the PDP, and its governorship candidate, Prof Sandy Onor.Mr Onor had approached both the tribunal and appellate court, insisting that Mr Otu must be disqualified from the race for allegedly holding dual citizenship, certificate forgery, and not being a member of the APC at the time of the election.

In a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Heleen Morenikeji Ogunwumiju, the apex court said the PDP and its governorship candidate failed woefully to substantiate the allegations of non-qualifications to stand for election made against the governor.Justice Ogunwumiju described as baseless the allegations by Prof Onor that the governor was not educated up to Secondary School.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Otu winner of the polls, having polled a total of 258,619 votes winning in 15 of the 18 local governments of the state to defeat his closest rival, Onor who garnered 179,636 votes.
