IS NO LONGER NEWS THAT BETA EDU WAS SUSPENDED BY HIS BOSS, THE PRESIDENT ON ALLEGED N585,189,500.00 TRANSFERED TO A PRIVATE ACCOUNT. BUT BEFORE HER SUSPENSION, THERE WAS UPROAR FROM DIFFERENT QUARTERS AGAINST ALLOWING HER TO STAY WITHIN 24 HOURS IN THAT OFFICE. SOME SEEK THE SACK OF BETA EDU OR SUSPEND HER BECAUSE THE HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS MINISTRY HAS BEEN A CASH COW FOR SOME CORRUPT POLITICS. IN THIS POST, I WILL TELL YOU THE DIFFERENT LAWS SHE CONTRAVENED THAT ARE GLARING AND PROMPTED PUBLIC CONDEMNATION. READ THE DETAILS BELOW.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Beta Edu has stated that the transfer of N585,189,500.00 into a personal account adhered to current civil service regulations and is legally permissible. The document additionally demonstrated that N585.198 million, the award intended for vulnerable communities in the states of Lagos, Ogun, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, was deposited into Oniyelu’s account
She described allegations that she diverted the fund as a blackmail.
The payment was to be made into a United Bank of Africa (UBA) account belonging to Oniyelu Bridget Mojisola.
Confirming the payment, the minister said in the statement issued on her behalf,
Edu’s letter authorizing the Accountant-General to make the payment has sparked reactions from Nigerians, who were concerned that public funds were being sent to a private individual. In the letter she said,
“I hereby approve the payment of the cumulative sum of N585,189,500. These are payments for programs and activities of the Renewed Hope grant for Vulnerable Groups,” Edu noted in the letter.
BUT A CHECK BY NISCOMPRESS MEDIA CONFIRMS THAT HER ACTIONS CONTRAVENE HER CLAIMS, LET SEE BELOW
Section 713 of the Act (under Chapter Seven) states:
“Personal money shall in no circumstances be paid into a government bank account, nor shall any public money be paid into a private bank account. An officer who pays public money into a private account is deemed to have done so with fraudulent intention.
SECTION 713 Public Sector Financial Regulation Act (2009).
